    Welcome to Axiom's infamous Dead Pool, where we handicap the fates and lay our bets on which overrated celeb will be the next to thin the herd by shuffling off this mortal coil. Some are old hands at this, seemingly permanent fixtures on these lists from year to year. Others are surprise picks, possibly showing good long-range career management skills by pulling a River Phoenix before they wear out their welcome.

    Our crack team of wagering professionals has put together this handy tip sheet of inside-track odds on who's gonna bump actually newsworthy stories off the front pages of newspapers in the coming year.

    Remember, all subjects must die during the calendar year 1998, missing doesn't count--bodies must be produced, and of course, immediate family members are ineligible.
